My name is Christina Joy and I am 20 years old. Among other things, I am a student, a freelance photographer, and people-watcher extraordinaire. This blog is a mason jar for the fragments of my increasingly jumbled soul. Don't be afraid of the monsters under the bed.

Believe in the Sun

This is Kathleen, or Kat for short. Kat just completed another year as editor-in-chief of our university's yearbook, and is graduating in four short days.  I was thrilled when she asked me to shoot her senior photos, since I respect her opinion (she is my boss, after all) and to be chosen by her is an honor.

This shoot was lots of fun, and I'm happy with the way it turned out.  It involved trekking across what seemed like miles of field, climbing into a random boat, changing outfits right next to an outdoor track (I made sure no runners were coming), and lots of hair flipping.  Kat was fantastic.

It's finals week, and I still have three more exams to go before I'm home free.  It's amazing how busy I can make myself feel without actually accomplishing any work.  Time to study...

Meet me in Paris

Last Friday, I shot senior photos for the lovely and hysterical Amanda.  She is a French major who lives across the hall from me, and often invites me into her room for impromptu tea.  (Her roommate works at Teavana, so it's the good stuff.)  For this session, I wanted to incorporate Amanda's fun, carefree personality and unquenchable femininity.

Finals week is just around the corner, but of course I am procrastinating as long as I can in regards to studying.  Instead, I am editing buckets and buckets of photos.  I think I have edited more photos in the last two days than I have in the last two weeks.  Two senior shoots, a magazine unveiling, and a music festival all add up to lots of work for me. The good news? I love it.

Some big news: my website is finally up and running!  I will do a post on it in the future, but for now, click here to check it out.

Your veins are my trenches, my gun is my own

My apologies for my last post, which was rather depressing.  Sometimes I forget that I don't want this blog turning into a platform for my emotional venting.

A few notable updates, for those interested:
  •  I shot my first couples shoot with my new 50mm lens, and it was a blast.  Shooting couples is easier than shooting singles in that the couple gets to interact with each other, requiring less prompting from the photographer (me).  I'll post some of the edited photos as soon as I find the time...or before, depending on how badly I end up procrastinating on other work.
  • Today I found out that I was accepted into a year-long program my school offers for Multimedia Production majors.  It's very hands-on, a combination of intensive classes and off-campus projects.  I have very mixed feelings about joining the program come Fall.  One of the reasons is that I've heard bad things about it from several people--it's not challenging enough, there is a huge emphasis on TV production (which is not my focus at all), some the professors are out of touch with what's cutting edge in the media world.  I guess I'll find out for myself.
  • My boyfriend's band "hired" me to create a website for them.  I'm excited about its progress so far, and will probably do a blog feature on it once it's completed.
That's all I can think of at the moment.  Until my next post, here's a video from a band I recently discovered (Esben and the Witch) that you should listen to.  Great study music.
